I visited Vietnam in 2010 as a part of my trip though Cambodia and a short visit of Bangkok. To plan a trip though Vietnam is not very difficult. In principle you have just two possibilities, go from north to south or vice versa. Because we flew into Saigon, we decided to continue into Cambodia, to Bangkok and then to fly to Hanoi (Ho Chi Minh City). From Hanoi we have done a small trip to Sa Pa and then took the north to south trip down to Saigon. Vietnam is a good proof of the thesis, that if one Asian succeeds in one activity, everybody else is copying him. That´s the reason why also in our country you see only three Vietnamese businesses: fast food, nails studios and night shops. Vietnamese cities are in principle large markets – every 30 metres you see the same types of shops. It is also true that the south is more lively then the north of the country. I was quite surprised by the fact, that not many Vietnamese speak English. What is for a country visited by so many tourists very strange. As a transport possibility you have either the bus or the train. Even the bus is faster and cheaper, I would recommend the train, it´s much more comfortable. Most of the buses are night buses and you don´t sit inside of them, but lie in a kind of wooden bed, which looks like more than coffins. And because the average Vietnamese is about a meter high ;), a normal person which is tall about a 1.7 m and more has to sit inside them J. On the other the Vietnamese food is fantastic! I will never forget their noodle soups full of meat! Vietnam is for sure worth visiting, even it is not the relaxing Asia like Cambodia or the Philippines...
